The best way to start archery safely is to join an Archery GB affiliated archery club, which will cover you for insurance as well as give you access to their facilities, training, advice and safety. To join you will need to complete a beginner’s course – see below for more details. We recommend you do this before buying any equipment as the club can advise you on what equipment will suit you best and it saves any expensive mistakes!
Our beginner’s courses are designed to teach you the basics of archery. We have an Archery GB qualified coach as well as several experienced archers who will conduct your course
****We currently have no places for our courses due to high demand. Please email us to be placed on a waiting list for future courses*****
The course costs £65 for adults and £40 for under 18s
A course last for 5 consecutive weeks (approx. 2 ½ hours per session) and are conducted on Tuesday evenings only.
No, all equipment is provided. Please wear comfortable clothing you can move about in. Please wear footwear that covers the whole of your feet for safety reasons.
Yes, Moorside Archery do not allow children under the age of 10 on our beginner’s courses for insurance purposes. Children between the ages of 10 and 17 must be accompanied on the beginner’s course by a parent or guardian (one parent / guardian per child).
After you’ve completed the Beginner’s Course you can join us! We charge a fee to cover your membership to Archery GB, the local county (Lancashire Archery Association) and the Northern Counties Archery Society (NCAS). You only pay the weekly fee when you shoot (£5). We don’t charge an extra fee to join the club. Current costs for 2024-25 (runs from September to September) are £66 for senior membership (21+), £22 for under 21s and £24 for disabled membership (self-declared).
If you have previously been a member of an archery GB affiliated club, you may not need to do a beginner’s course. Get in touch, we will contact you to discuss your options. You may need to pay us a visit so we can assess your equipment and knowledge. Please do not be offended if we advise you to do a beginner’s course.
If you are a current member of an Archery GB affiliated club and want to join, get in touch and we can arrange this for you. If you wish to join us as a second club, you just need to show us proof of your Archery GB membership and pay our weekly subs when you shoot (currently £5).
Our shooting venue has a small step at the main door but we can arrange access for wheelchairs at another entrance if you let us know and there is an accessible toilet. We believe archery should be inclusive and we have several disabled archers in our club who have experience of assisting people with disabilities so please get in touch if you’d like to know how we can help you shoot.
