Moorside Archery Club had a very special visitor to the club on 24th September.
The club were the lucky winners of one of 10 Aldi Sports Bursary awards, linked with Aldi's support of the Paralympic GB and Team GB teams.
Part of the prize was a session with an Olympic or Paralympic athlete. We welcomed double Olympic medal winning track cyclist Josie Knight along with her two medals, that she kindly let us all hold.
Josie led a fascinating Q&A which gave us lots of tips on training, sports psychology and the importance of warm ups before having a shoot with us.
Aldi presented us with a cheque for £1500 for the club (which will come in very handy as we are in the process of securing an outdoor shooting venue!) as well as a hamper of goodies.
An unforgettable evening, and we will all be glued to the coverage to see Josie in the upcoming World Cup this October.
On the weekend of 14th and 15th September our Chairman, Daniel Powell and Welfare Officer, Mark Ollerenshaw competed at the The Worshipful Company of Fletchers' Disability Championships, held at Lilleshall's National Archery Centre. Competing over the two days in their respective category.
Mark finished 6th overall but won in his class for 50+ Men's Compound on the Saturday. On the Sunday Mark then shot in a Teams Match where he and his partner made it to the semi finals and came 4th losing out by only 3 points to two Paralympians.
Danny competed in the Men's Recurve Individual 70m finishing 6th overall on the Saturday. On the Sunday Danny also shot in the Teams Match coming a respectable 13th.
A very wet, but great weekend was had by all.
Well done Danny and Mark.
We are proud to announce that we have appointed a new Welfare Officer for the club. It is with great pleasure that we can announce that our committee member Mark Ollerenshaw will be taking the position of Welfare officer. We have adopted Archery GB's Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy. A full copy of the policy can be found here:
Pictures from our annual competition against Asheton Archers. Sadly, once again, they beat us. But we're getting closer to catching them..... maybe next year!
We are currently not accepting new members or running any beginner's courses.
Please keep an eye on the website as we will announce the next beginner's course on here.
Thank You.
Moorside Archery Club are pleased to announce that we have been awarded continued membership of Archery GB's Ontarget Community Specialism programme. We are proud to be a valued member of the local community and the award demonstrates this commitment.
